Delete your Gurt AI account
This page is for anyone with a Gurt AI account, on Android or iPhone. It says how to delete your account, what is deleted when you do, and what is kept and for how long. You do not need the app installed to ask.
1. How to delete your account
In the app, on Android or iPhone. Open Gurt AI, go to Me, open Settings (on iPhone, the gear at the top of Me), and choose Delete account. The app asks you to confirm. Deletion happens straight away and cannot be undone. If it cannot finish, the app tells you, your account is kept, and you can try again.
By email. If you cannot open the app or sign in, write to [email protected] from the email address your account uses, and say that you want your account deleted. We reply to that address to confirm it is you before anything is deleted, and again when it is done. If you signed in with Google or Apple, write from the address that account uses.
2. What is deleted
When your account is deleted, these are removed from our systems straight away:
- Your account and your sign-in. Nobody can sign in to it again.
- Your profile: name, username, profile photos, cooking streak, and the allergies, diets and other food preferences you saved.
- Every recipe you saved or posted, and the photos you uploaded with them. A deleted photo can still be reached at its old web address for up to about an hour, while copies cached for speed expire.
- Your likes, the people you follow, the people who follow you, and any follow requests in either direction.
- Your notifications, and the notifications you caused for other people.
- Your list of blocked people, and the reports you sent us.
- The counts of how many AI requests your account made.
- Your purchase records (iPhone).
- The records of what you did in the app that carry your account.
3. What is kept, and for how long
- On your own phone. Things the app stored on the phone itself, such as your fridge list and shopping list. In the Android app, deleting your account in the app on that phone removes them from the phone. Otherwise (in the iPhone app, on another phone, or if you asked us by email) they stay until you uninstall the app or clear its data. We cannot remove them for you.
- A device identifier. A random number made by the app, used so that a free scan or a referral credit cannot be claimed twice from one phone, and the record that a referral was credited. Both are kept after your account is deleted, with your account removed from them. They hold no name and no email address. We do not yet delete them on a schedule.
- The record of what you agreed to. When the Android app asks you to agree to something (for example the Terms, or using AI features), we record your answer. After your account is deleted these records stay without your account: the account and the app version are removed, and the time is cut to the day. What is left is which text, which version, yes or no, where it was asked, and the platform. We keep it to show what was agreed, if we are ever asked.
- Our AI provider. Photos and ingredient lists you sent for a scan or a recipe were passed to our AI provider, Anthropic. It deletes what we send within 30 days, unless it must keep something longer to enforce its usage rules or to comply with the law. We do not keep scanned photos ourselves.
- Reports about you. Reports other people made about you, and the content they reported, are kept to keep Gurt safe and to deal with appeals.
- Backups. If our database backups hold a copy of your information, it is removed when that backup expires. Photos are not in our database backups.
- Emails you sent us. Messages you wrote to our support address stay in our mailbox until we delete them. Ask in the same email and we will delete them too.
- Website visits. Records of visits to this website carry no account, so they cannot be matched to you or removed on request.
- A paid subscription on iPhone. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store. Cancel it in your iPhone's App Store settings. Apple keeps its own record of the purchase. The Android app sells nothing.
4. Deleting some of your data and keeping your account
You can delete any recipe you saved or posted from inside the app, and change or remove your profile photo, name, allergies and diets in the app. For anything else, write to [email protected] from your account's email address and say what you want removed.
